On 20 July 2018, the eighth edition of Demanio Marittimo. Km-278 – the night dedicated to architecture, arts and design will take place as usual on Marzocca di Senigallia beach, from 6 in the evening to 6 in the morning. During the event dedicated to Coexistence, international guests will be invited on stage along the sea shore to narrate our contemporary age until dawn, with talks, lectures, workshops and live productions.

PROTAGONISTS – a preview
Coexistence and architecture: Demanio Marittimo has invited prestigious guests, such as Giancarlo Mazzanti (Medellin), Christopher Roth (Berlin) and Jan Boelen (Eindhoven), along with young artists, performers and well-known artists like Liam Young (Los Angeles), James Taylor Foster (Stockholm) and many others. Some of them will be on the beach of Marzocca di Senigallia to kick off an ambitious project of travelling, transdisciplinary research activity called “Housing the Human”. The project intends to contribute to coexistence between individuals and communities in contemporary space. Under the supervision of Freo Majer (Forecast, Berlin), Joséphine Michau (Copenhagen Architecture Festival), Jan Boelen (Istanbul Design Biennale) and Pippo Ciorra (MAXXI, Demanio Marittimo.Km-278), the research will produce 5 prototypes that will be presented in Berlin at the end of the programme, in the spring of 2019, and during the next edition of Demanio Marittimo.
Again this year, Demanio talks about geographies in transit and under transformation, looking at the Adriatic-Mediterranean horizon, in a talk show chaired by Francesco Cancellato, director of Linkiesta. The spotlight is still on the earthquake, and in particular on the photographs of Olivo Barbieri, Paola De Pietri and Petra Noordkamp for Terre in movimento. The project is promoted by the Superintendence of Marche for Cultural Heritage, Cultural Activities, and Tourism led by Carlo Birrozzi, together with MAXXI and the Dutch Embassy. The goal is to restore the metamorphosis of the natural, cultural and urban landscape of Marche struck by the earthquake in 2016.
Demanio’s “network of networks” will also host protagonists of important events of the international cultural panorama – from Biennale di Architettura of Venice to Manifesta, including a reminder to a special anniversary like Il mio ’68: with a transversal panel, Francesca Molteni and Franco Raggi will narrate the different souls of the movement and the influences on the artistic disciplines and the project.

DEDICATED PRODUCTIONS

Two specific productions will accompany the event, the wait for the dawn and for the following days, in collaboration with different national and international partners.
Sislej Xhafa will present obbobobbobo dul peshku, a site specific installation that on Saturday 21 July will inaugurate another section of the Adriatic coast, in front of Da Nialtri restaurant, produced by Associazione Demanio Marittimo.Km-278 in collaboration with Galleria Continua, the Ministry of Culture of Kosovo, Università Politecnica delle Marche and sponsored by the Municipality of Montemarciano.
Davide Quadrio is the curator of Spazio sacro spazio rituale, l’arte nel gesto, a project that develops through the night. The general rehearsal will occupy the first hour of the programme, with a conversation between Quadrio, Cristiana Colli and artist and designer Andrea Anastasio, who will present his installation “SINOPIE 2018”. At first light, the project will be converted into several performance moments: Niggunim | sashimono by Roberto Paci Dalò and Don’t be afraid of turning the page by Alessandro Sciarroni.

From 6 pm to 6 am, the passing of every hour will be marked by a key word that will restore semantic variety and syntax for orienteering purposes: 12 words for 12 hours formulated by Giorgio Moretti, the founder of the blog unaparolaalgiorno.it.

THE STAGE DESIGN
The meetings and actions of the eight edition of Demanio Marittimo Km-278 will take place in the spaces and on the stages designed by the students of the Royal College of Art of London, this year’s partner of the ideas contest for the stage design: a temporary architecture for 12 months, designed to frame the sea and to host ideas, images and thoughts. The winning project, Fili d’Unione, meditates on the beach as limit of the contemporary urban landscape, a meeting place between identity, local excellence and international creativity. The winners – which were selected by the jury chaired by Margherita Guccione, Director of MAXXI Architettura, and formed of Pippo Ciorra, Cristiana Colli, Mario Gagliardini, Beth Hughes, Silvia Cognini, and Emanuele Marcotullio, who met at MAXXI of Rome – are the students Matthew Darmour-Paul, Dika Terra Lim, Yujun Liu, and Chi-Jen Wang.
The architecture created by young talents will also meet and host an iconic session of the history of design: the legendary Sacco by Zanotta, which celebrates its 50 years in 2018, will be the “official chair” of Demanio Marittimo.Km-278.
The homage to Maestro del Territorio explores a figure between spirituality and landscape, magic and alchemy – Girolamo Varnelli – the foreseeing herbalist who created in 1868 Distilleria Varnelli, a world-famous producer of iconic spirits, such as Anice Secco, Amaro Sibilla and Persico, which was presented again to celebrate its 150-year anniversary in 2018.
